POST 1…
This year, I spent a lot of time fishing the Fox near Aurora plus several places out of state. I recap them all in 3 posts, starting with the Fox.
Fox River near Aurora––wading
I fish mostly from shore with a little wading with a friend thrown in. I'll start with my friend, who stole the show this year by catching this 19-incher (we measured it!) while we were wading.
We also caught many others while wading, with a large range in size. I'd say this year had some of the bigger bass we caught in the Fox, maybe a good sign of a healthy fish population.
Here's me with a typical size.
Fox River near Aurora––solo shore fishing
When I fish solo from shore, I throw only topwater to reduce lures lost to snags. My best topwater this year was a buzzbait, which caught both smallies and catfish.
I also had great success with a Skitter Walk. Plus I tried unusual topwaters, including a Yappa Bug, a Jackall Pompadour Jr, and others. The Yappa Bug was probably best. Here's a typical YB fish.
As of Oct 9, I'm still catching fish on topwater. Here's 1 from a day ago on the skitter walk.
Texas shore fishing
I spent a couple weeks in Texas and caught several speckled trout and skipjack/ladyfish on gold spoons. Fun times!
