Why I dislike FP Part II (big bend edition)

Postby nbBasshunter » May Thu 10, 2012 1:16 pm

Part One was about Beck from last summer. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14036

I stopped off at big bend around 5:30PM yesterday on the way home from work. I think my last time there was about 20 years ago. Never realized it's actually quite beautiful 'tho fishing is another story. To my surprise, I saw couple of nice bass swimming near the shore. Threw everything I had; berkeley sinking minnow, senko, spinnerbait, crawjig and cranks but they showed absolutely no interest.

Now back to the topic, there was no one else fishing there until...these two guys showed up. Just one of them had a fishing pole and the other was carrying a styrofoam bucket. They started walking briskly toward me as if they need to talk to me or something. I thought they just wanted to fish nearby but kept walking toward me to a point I felt uncomfortable and reached down for a pocket knife. What happens next, I felt like I was on Candid Camera. Dude with the fishing pole come stands to my right, shoulder to shoulder, and starts casting while the other guy goes to my left, shoulder to shoulder. I kid you NOT, I was standing right in between these two guys, shoulder to shoulder! WTF! I stood there speechless. This almost comical. Then I got a sudden urge to push these guys into the water but quickly thought better of it. I then asked, using some choice words, why they can’t find a different spot to fish. They looked at each other and said something in their language and just stood there with a dumb look on their faces without saying anything. So I ended up walking away in disgust. Story doesn’t end there. I got to the other side and was getting ready to head back home. Dude on the right in this photo turns around and starts relieving himself right on the shore. There were no others fishing but lots of people taking strolls and walking their dogs. Not only he’s doing it in plain sight but he’s mere couple feet away from his buddy who did not seem bothered at all either.

There were schools of huge goldfish swimming around. I think they’re what these idiots were going after. Do people eat big ol goldfish? Nasty…

I'm starting to believe that I'm invisible. Man, I really need to get me a kayak.

It's funny, a similar story could be told in countless other situations besides just fishing. It's remarkable to me - beyond remarkable really, how some people have ZERO concept of personal space. None, I mean NONE.

But back to fishing, I really find it unreal how ignorant some anglers can be. They probably caught a carp in that exact same spot once and had to have it. It's something we all have stories about and just goes with the territory.

On a related note, I happen to be taking the kayak to Big Bend this evening. Been wanting to get the yak there for a while and this evening is the choice. If I see your buddies, i'll say hello.

People really have no clue sometimes...I would have been laughing too probably with the way they were acting. Those bucketheads have no problem encroaching on a spot if they see you catching something. But it is more comical when you move away and give them their space and they can't catch a cold if they wanted to. Or after they leave you go right back to the same spot and start catching fish again and you get the deer in the headlights look from them...

should have tossed a senko over they're line and then cut both lines free.... I'm sure you can re-tire quicker than they can. I had a dude in a boat do something similiar to me, i'm on shore, he cruises right up and casts over my line.... I tell him hang on i'll take care of it... Get the lures in, cut his line and tossed the lure in the water.... Have some respect, it goes a long way. If someones fishing around an area I like to put a few casts in, I ask if they mind if I toss a line out for a lil bit and then move on.... I've never had anyone say no, and I always give them enough room to feel comfortable.
Poets talk about"spots of time,"but itis really fishrmn who experience eternity compressed in2 a moment No1 can tell what a spot of time is untl suddnly the whole world is a fish and the fish is gone I shall remember that son of a bitch forever

I stood back and was the bigger man and kept my mouth shut alot of times.....until i had one cross my line.....after telling him to get the fuck away from me, he got in my face....not gonna go into details but I had to leave the scene rather quickly after that.....by the way it happened at Big Bend also.
I love the look on a bucketheads face when I toss back a nice fattie to its rightful home.

this was pretty extreme but i've had similar experiences before. it doesn't what you're casting or doing because if these ignorant bucketheads want your spot, they will do whatever to claim it.

Big Bend can be productive at this time of year. Go to the South West Corner of the lake and take a small white spinner or a #8 X-rap in hot steel, olive green and silver. I used to wade in a few feet and got many small pike at this time of year. I have also gotten a bonus bass or two back there as well.

Also, it is a far walk from the parking lot and many of the people are too lazy to get all the way back there. Now I will not say you will be by yourself, it is a cook county fp lake, but there are less that make the trek all the way back there. I do know how you feel and this is why last year I bought a yak and this year bought a boat. Good luck out there and hope you don't have many more trips like that one.

if you had a jar of gulp, you could have accidently spilled some of the liquid to one side or the other.

firing up a real cheap stoogie is another option.

i had that happen at tampier once, though they weren't quite that close. after I started talking to my self quite quickly and a little louder while gesturing all over, they moved far away while making hex signs toward me. ithink the twitching and head jerking helped as well.

start singing loudly and badly off key.
put a dip in your hip, some glide in your stride and come onto the mother ship

Norm I thought you lived on the K3.

Why on earth would you drive that far from home to fish a muddy bottomed pond? :D :D

the moroons aren't worth the trouble, but I ususally make it known right away that infringing on my casting space might result in an "accidental" rattletrap in their face.
Learn your knots, LUBE your knots, CHECK your knots-ALWAYS!!, and RE-check periodically ....... and you'll have AT LEAST 50% less break offs... (and less leaving your lures and tackle in the fish's face, which is often soon fatal.... :(
