I walked the Bode Lakes mostly for exercise, a 6" bass and a bullfrog that wanted my leech...then I checked out Penny Road a few minutes away. I've never been there before and was surprised to see a clearwater creek flowing through this small pond. I caught a couple of tiny bluegill and a turtle and then walked over to the creek. Carp were swimming up into the inlet flow, mostly 3-4 lbers, but one I didn't see sucked up my drifted leech. #12 hook, 4# test, 9' ultra light. Fun.

Nice job, Ultra-light equipment would be fun with a carp on the end.

Well Done

I spent half my money on gambling, alcohol, women and fishing. The other half I wasted.

Luv me some ultralite. For me it outfishes everything else 10-1 around Cook County, both size and numbers. The only problem is the terminal tackle is so tiny it's getting hard for this old-timer to thread the hooks!

I've been on the look out for an affordable long 8-10' UL. Anyone have any recommendations?

These are your guys. JEDREX Bait Shop on the north side of Higgins (a few blocks east of Arlington Heights Rd) carries Jaxon and other Euro-style match and live bait rods. I've been using an XT-Pro 9' NEW Generation Royal Spin Jig rod. Model WJ-XRJ27216. I picked it up last year at JEDREX for about $65. Great rod!

I fished penny first time a couple weeks ago. Pretty little lake and looks to have a lot of carp.

Thanks for this report. I didn't, until I made a conscious effort to find it tonight, know that Penny Road Pond existed/was close to me, and it's nice to know there is a really awesome looking carp patrolling the waters, if nothing else.

There are some bass in that pond as well. I saw a carcass on the shore...about 3 lbs.

Very nice carp and I bet the fight he gave you with your UL was amazing.

5 minutes of pure fish fighting joy. I used to kill carp when I was a young man. No more.
