C.A.S.T. Crew is a great endeavor. I like the guys I talked to. What I would like to see less of are the weapons that don't have anything to do with fishing. I'm just sayin' man. Thug livin' is bullshit.

Your issue with the Cast Crew is that you think they are portraying thugs and/or gang bangers by showing weapons in some of their promotional images and graphics? I am just trying to understand what you don't like.

I see the branding as appealing to a demographic that is very often over looked in the sport of fishing. The urban youth and urban angler that has generally always been ignored. I don't see the image of the "thug life" being portrayed. I see the image of inner city living.

A huge issue that is being talked about quite a bit is how to get more inner city people involved in fishing. Groups like http://www.fishin-buddies.net/ is great example of this. Cast has the ability to appeal to them. It makes fishing cool and accessible to them. At least that's what I see from it or maybe I am just giving too much credit to the crew. Maybe they can clear that up for us

has nothing to do with gangs or Thug'Livin' ??...has everything to do with branding and reaching differnt groups, and getting them into fishing...it has to do with passion.

Sure it is...my point is that if you say the style is and all that stuff can stay, but the weapons make it look like gang banger crap, then both of those pictures should look like gang bangers. The truth is that they don't though. It's the style makes them look different, not the weapon.

Agreed, you can't compare a thug on the street to a guy doing his job in the army who's been through extensive training, no comparison. Agreed, but what tells us that picture 1 is a thug on the street and that picture 2 is a guy who's doing his job in the army and has been trained extensively? Is it the weapons? No. It is the "uniform" that they wear so you can't say that the cast crew's stuff makes them looks like gang bangers or thugs just because there are weapons in there.

Regarding the disagreement thing - I don't think that strongly disagreeing with somebody and having a good debate trashes the boards at all. As a matter of fact, I would say quite the opposite and that it makes it look like a place that you can come and talk about stuff without fear of internet tough guy crap.

I lived in chicago for a good part of my life,and worked in a suburban police dept for awhile .So I,m familiar with gangs.If you want to change someones direction in life,why perpetuate a gangbanger image.The cast crew may be great guys.But they sure look like gangbanger,s.Complete with the guns and hand signs.I,m not trying to judge these guys,just can,t see what brass knuckles and assault rifles have to do with fishing.Last time I looked this was a fishing site.

I've met the CAST crew, good group of guys that would give you the shirt off their backs if you needed it.

Branding speaks to people, but it also speaks about what is being branded. These guys are not pushing themselves as thugs, they are breaking the boundary between what idiot America thinks fishing is, and what their passion for fishing is.

Why is the image of weapons in the picture a big deal? Does it scare anyone? No. Does it make kids want to have weapons? No.

The criminals on the streets that are shooting their friends, parents and neighbors are what makes kids want weapons. Those folks are the bad influence. From what I see, hear, and know these guys have nothing to do with any of that.

Nick hit on a good point about the two pictures and I wonder how many of you just brushed it off as irrelevant. If you see the CAST crew as representing as thugs then maybe you should look at the guys that walk around in camo while out in the woods as militia. Otherwise it's petty stereotyping and that pisses me off.

First off, I take offense to the original post. I have posted fishing reports for 3 days in a row, which is like, OMG, a record for FishinMatt #BANG

Secondly, the CAST crew seems like a pretty decent crew. I am impressed with what they did at the first WCF tourny.

It seeems like they a focusing a good extent of branding on inner-city youth. IMO they are nailing it. If anything a kid seeing those cards would be inspired to pick up a fishing rod, not a gun. Just my take and I did not think anything of the weapon until I saw Bob's comment.

Now Nick and Bob do not seem to get along on the boards. No secret there. Bob seems to have a few rivalries, lol. With the history, it is not a suprise that when Nick makes a comment contrary to Bob's opinion, there is going to be some drama. Nick is entitled to his opinion, but he knew darn well he would stir the hornets nest with his comment, so give up the innocent act, because the end result was predictable.

I have met Bob, and like Bob. However, I don't agree with some of the comments he makes directed at SpecialEd, Ken, or Brookfield Angler. I wish everyone could just get along. Jason and the other MODS don't like deleting posts and locking threads, but sometimes it has to be done, just like this one. Like some have said, one of the coolest things about WCF is that it lacks most of the drama that often takes place on some of the bigger, more established boards. As this site grows, there is bound to be friction b/w people, but please keep it to a minimum. Jason is one of the best guys around, and if anything, please try to keep it respectful out of respect for him.

I have met most of you guys and I know that if you actually met in person and had a beer and shot the breze, all this petty stuff on the boards would go away. Your all good guys, please act like it.
