Impressive. I have been to Heidecke a few times, but never did that well. Never fly fished it either...

I know as hard as a lake it could be sometimes to be able to fly fish and catch fish is pretty impressive. I used to hate that lake but as you go more and more you learn it and know what to use for bait.

Yea I have been watching his videos often, I think it was sometime last year I booked a trip with him on Hiedecke for this past season. I saw on his website he caught a monster Stipper there so I booked him to give it a shot. We had lots of fun and caught some nice fish. He is a great guide and very friendly. I also book Kankakee River with him as well and had a blast. I am a fishing fanatic and dont care how much money to spend on it! I am going to email him or call him after the season to book a trip for next year. From what I can tell you the two trips I booked last year was fantastic and I am going to book another with him. I'm crossing my fingers that he has openings still.

Freshwater Drum AKA sheephead, dread-heads, sucker-bass, and silva' bass..... Are fun to fight, and would be a blast on a fly rod.

But who would pay a guide to take them out to target them?

Hey Waterworshipper,
I hired Captain Bob for two river float trips down the Kankakee and he video taped our floats what a cool float boat never saw anything like it! I had such a good time I went back again and he gave me a $100 discount the second time cool! Man I had a blast believe me there were many days a have fished and friends joke I have the curse on me. When I hired Captain Bob I wasn't aware the small mouth grew that big on the river I only caught small ones. I just booked a trip with him on Heidecke Lake for 2013 you know he specializes in those black drum huge fish his videos of those fish look awesome I want to try that! While we were talking he was telling me he had a record season on for {large fish) not numbers of fish both on the Kankakee & Heidecke. He said he was 4 fish short of registering 1000 fish with clients this past season. He said that is 364 fish less then 2009 season but the record heat was the reason for that. He did say he caught like sixteen 4 pounders, one 5lb, and one small mouth over 6 lbs on the river this past season those are all over 20 inch fish! In my opinion I don’t think he messes around he's got top-notch underwater photo equipment and he shoots photos for all his clients. I see you found the 6lb movie clip on youtube nice! Hes already got like 40 fishing videos on there. I would definitely recommend this guy hes easy going guy knows his stuff. I am going to call him soon for a fly casting lesson in the spring I always wanted to learn how to fly fish next.

Bobba Down a true fisherman would pay a guide to target Drum. Just like a fisherman would pay to target large crappie or large blue gills. Every fisherman has his own spiecies they love to fish for. But some fisherman got to try and catch the largest from each spiecies of fish. Its all part of the sport, its fun and excitement trust me.

I understand why people fish for them. Heck, I even target them myself once and a while for fun.

But Heid can be a difficult lake to get dialed in on. If I was going to pick the brain of someone who had that place figured out, I'd pick a tougher nut to crack. Like how to pattern the elusive stripers or eyes on those reefs. You can pretty much sight fish for the sucker-bass from shore as they mindlessly cruise the bank.
But that's just me.

Every fish can be fished by sight fishing. It all depends what type of year, water temps lake clarity and so on... Everyones intiteled to there own opinions but that's not all this guy catches there. Ive been there lots of times and that lake is one of the hardest lakes I have ever fished in my life. From this guys videos its clear that he knows what he is doing check some out if you ever get a chance . They are pretty cool I posted a few links above.

Water Worshipper,
Thats a pretty cool video on the drum. Yes they do get that big on Heidecke. I Called him after the holidays and booked a trip with him. From trying to get a date set it looked like hes starting to fill up fast. I recommend you call as soon as you can. Don't miss out its going to be worth it. I cant wait for spring to get here!

REd,

Im not sure what you mean about mixing the drum up. I think his video was just showing how awesome these fish are to catch.

The black drum is a saltwater cousin of the freshwater drum (aka sheephead). He is catching sheephead, not black drum

There are buffalo as well in Heidecke which are retardedly big. The old concessionaire that used to work there when they still rented boats knew that lake well. He gave me some advice the first time I went and till this day have not been skunked on eyes. We catch hybrid stripers about 50 percent of the time we go as well.

Wow very cool video. I think that is a great video because there is nothing like photos or video of showing proof of a catch. The smallie is a great catch, I agree the slow motion thing is cool. Man these videos don't lie. Yea He does Hiedecke guide services as well as Kankakee River. It shows that this guy knows a lot of techniques and has great knowledge of fly and spinning gear. I called him up after the Christmas Holidays and booked a trip with him. I am really looking forward to this trip. When I get on the water with him in the spring I will ask about fly lessons. I always wanted to learn fly fishing. I just may have to book something with him with that if he has any openings at the time as well.
