With all the flooding I wonder if it will be necessary for folks to get out there & find stranded smallies & get them back into the river once things start to normalize?
Everything I've read about bass at least with LMBs is that they're very sensitive to slight water level changes and will move to main river channels pretty quickly when it starts to drop. People have done experiments even by lowering a fish tank just a few inches in water levels and bass will park on the bottom quickly. I've had luck with flooded rivers, it concentrates the fish on the banks.
Good point to bring up, let's hope you're not correct.
Hopefully more experienced folks with river flooding and your question will chime in.
Back in the day I'd go down to swan pond in riverside when it flooded and a variety of fish would get trapped, mostly carp. I remember doing a bit of rescuing back then.
I think the smallies know their holes and route back to good level waters pretty well. Not sure about carp pigs though.
