June 15th, Pikes

From the south suburbs to the northwest suburbs, the Des Plaines River provides some excellent fishing opportunities.

June 15th, Pikes

I decided I have to fish a little more often. I'm crazy busy at work, so it is not easy to find time...
Anyway, I was able to fish DPR for almost 2 hours today, at the worst time (3-5, very hot) but I had a blast. I used the old Mepps, no.3 brass blade. I got 5 pikes, one nice bluegill and around 10 other strikes from very small pikes. The water was very clear, so I was able to cast in good spots. The best places: on top of piles of submerged wood, medium retrieve was best. Interesting thing is, after I lost my mepps I tried to see if other spinners will have the same effect: no way. I used 3 other brands with not even one hit or anything in 20 min. With the mepps I had a lot of fish following it, mostly bluegills and some warmouth.

Nope, between Devon and Touhy. I think this are good size pikes for that part. I used to go there last year and most of them were bellow 20", these were way bigger (I would say 24 to 26) and very healthy. There's a lot of forage in that area. With the clear water I was able to see a lot of small fish.

I was more jazzed about the Gills. Never really see them by me!

My biggest project should be done Aug 15, so I still have 3-4 months of fishing this year :-) And considering I was able to get that project with the crazy times we live in, I can't complain. Who knows, maybe I'll get a boat after all... sweet dreams... :)

Nice dude I went today the same time but off river rd. Between Oakton and Touhy caught two !! Last cast I nailed a guy just under 25" and as I went to grab him I slipped in the river with my right leg because I was on a slope lol

Very nice! The pike haven't been very active on my end at all so I feel a little jealousy rising up.

I bet if you used a Sims Spinner you'd have got a lot more than follows and about 10 pike

I fished that stretch all the time last year because I used to live right there. Caught nothing but snakes. Nice work
