Rockies, a swimming pigeon & costly fishing 5/25

Postby nbBasshunter » May Fri 25, 2012 11:12 pm

Got out of work early today and stopped off at the river on the way home. Lost a couple of spinnerbaits early  so I t-rigged a chartreuse berkeley floating minnow and dragged it back like a swimbait. What could've been my PB pike tried to smash but missed it completely. In total, I had several follows and 3 blowups on spinnerbait & floating minnow. Are DPR pikes normally this inaccurate? They reminded me of last year's Adam Dunn. One completely missed the bait and kept trying to bite my line.:?:

Rockies on the other hand were very accurate and provided lots of fun. They were pretty chunky and hit hard on Sims spinner & shad rap perch.

Lost 4 nice lures and 2 Walmart spinnerbaits in just 2 hrs of fishing.

Last year's Adam Dunn indeed. LMAO!

Yeah, they can certainly be like that. I've had it happen many times.

Those odds stink. I lost one spinner yesterday and the worst is keeping that spot and casting out the whole time looking at that lure stuck in the log. Taunting you..
I have had more misses and swipes in the past few days then in recent memory as well. A lot of hits then full body rolls over it. But no hook up! Ive seen more Pike Bellies in the past few days then Id care to count!

Great job with the Rockies though!

At times the pike are not in full feed mode (rockies are blowing up now though), rather attack/pissed mode.
Last couple of days I've had lots of follows , rolls, 'warnings' ect. but they are not full on taking the baits. About one in three nice strikes as opposed to 4 of 5. And no return follows or strikes. Not usual.
Lower water levels and very clear water may be an issue.

Had two follow all the way up to me in the middle of the river today about 2 o'clock . I saw them first and attempted 8s. They both followed the first 8 and then saw me and shot off. Had four on and netted two. One biggie got off. They are definately acting a bit off. BP is high and tomorrow in the 90's could have something to do with it to.
