hello kitty pond 6/29

Headed over to my honeyhole to catch some bass before going to work but something completely unexpected happened. Using my trusty black berkeley sinking minnow (t-rigged), first cast into the pool under a manmade waterfall catches this little guy so I thought it's a good start.

I then moved over to the rocks where a school of sunfish are always present. A few seconds after, something takes the berkeley. It felt heavy and I knew it wasn't a bass but a cat. Soon after, 2 other cats joined in and kept launching at the bait sticking out of the hooked cat's mouth. Never seen such a frenzy especially at this little pond. Guess it's true that hot weather really turns cats on. Ended up catching 2 more (7-8lb ea) but it kinda sucked because I only had about an hour to fish and each of them took about 15 mins to bring in on a 6lb line. They kept coming to a point I had to dodge 'em. I've never caught catfish on this type of lure or senkos. The other day, I almost caught a pike with the same lure (chartreuse color). This thing works so much better than senkos and evidently versatile. Only bad thing is that they stink up my tacklebox.

Yow that's awesome. I may have another excuse to go to Bass Pro Shops, as if I needed one.

Awesome catch adds to a smile on the face all day at work after something that productive.

Krispy: wasn't by choice :)

jmdog: I get 'em from gander (free shipping!) I believe current rebate gives you $5 back if you buy 2 packs

tmoney: I know you do. :) Let's call it tmoney pond from now on. btw, this one kid pulled out a decent pike from there last week.

shocker: i'd smile more if they were big bass instead.

Deal!

That's the 3rd Pike I've heard about coming from there. The only way that can happen is if the river floods bad enough...but in all my years fishing there, I've never seen one. I suppose it's possible that someone put a Pike in there from the river. If so, I hope it doesn't ruin the fishery.

Last year I caught one while setting up for my daughter with a nightcrawler under a bobber and also saw one that swam by like a zombie. I also know a few neighborhood kids that frequent that place who put them in from the river.

That's a terrible idea. They will either eat all of the fish in the pond and/or eventually starve.
