So me and my gf finally have the day off next week and we're hoping to go fishing for some largemouth for the first time. We live in uptown and were hoping for something within 30 minutes from us. Anyone have any suggestions on were to go and what to use? I just bought my first baitcast last week and some lures to use with it (senkos, buzzbaits, frogthing and some crawfish).

If you're lookin to fish lake michigan, I've caught largemouth at Dusable Harbor, but I haven't been there for a few weeks. The area where the police station stands is a good spot. It's a small area but there are largemouth there. Casted right under the police station. Most of the cops don't mind. In fact some of them are cool and ask if you've caught anything. But once in a while one of them will ask you not to fish so close to the police station. In general, most people who fish there do not cast near the police boats to the left side, since the cops don't like that. I used 4" zoom hogs (look like crawdads), green w/ red flakes or black flakes. The rock bass will hit 'em too, except they miss a lot 'coz their mouths are too small. Work 'em slow, just drag a few inches at a time on the bottom. I've also caught some with erie darters, or if you have anything that resembles a goby, almost anything in the lake will hit it, when the bite is on near shore. Use a jighead or keeper hook. I fished there a few weeks ago in the afternoon and another guy caught some too, using small spinnerbait, if I recall, white in color. Good luck if u give it a try.

Awesome thanks for the tips and advice. I'm gonna go check it out next week. Hit Skokie Lagoons today but didn't get there until 2pm or so and didn't catch a single thing. I was south of tower road though so I think I'll try north tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Eddie

Was at DuSable harbor yesterday and nothing. That area by the Police boats has been dead lately. Last weekend about 30-40 dead carp were floating around the northside of the pier by the water building, its unusual cause sheephead will be around but nothing.

On a good day these are some of the fish that can be caught there

Was that a red Blade dancer?.... Sweet. I think those lures are overlooked by most. (inexpensive too)
