Rain in your area?

Postby JB » Jul Wed 18, 2012 10:52 pm

Today while at work the clouds rolled in and it rained for about 20 minutes in Oak Brook. I live in Darien and it started raining this evening shortly after a number of battleship size clouds rolled in. I swear I was cheering out loud when it started to rain. I think it rained for a total of maybe half hour. C'mon!!!! I was wondering if it was limited to my area or just how far this rain burst reached.....anyone else see some good stuff?

I'm not sure how muchwe got, but the DPR in Riverside shot all the way up to 1330cfs as of 5:45 this morning. Much better than the 180 it was at yesterday!

The dog's plastic pool in the backyard had about 1/2 an inch this morning

I did notice the DPR below the Brandon lock and dam, water is up nearly 2ft and flowing fast this morning. Dupage river level changes were observable, but minimal.

It's so hard to tell in that spot. I've been there on a wed and it was lower than ever....and then later in the day higher than ever.

That is true. Water levels in that spot are more dependant on how much water they are letting through the dam, and it always fluxuates up and down. Im sure by tomorrow, or even later in the day the water will be back down. But that area has consistently been very low the last couple weeks, and the fact that there was enough water above the dam to open things up a bit, is atleast a good sign.

We got almost exactly 2 inches in Elgin. River flow more than doubled according to usgs. Out on the river this morning saw some floating debris and lots of floating weeds and algae, but clarity not too bad.

Poured hard with major lightning and thunder on the lake .
Have to pump out the boat tonght. I am sure it's 3 or 4 inches.

We needed the rain bad thought.

Thanks Border Collie for the specs...I must have slept thru alot of the rainfall. I'm so happy that we got a good drenching and not only limited to certain areas from what others had to say. Not sure if it will resurrect the fried lawns but at least it did bring the waterways up a bit even if for a little while. Thanks all for the weather reports.

3/4"-1" in Dekalb... River looks great! Fish are out stretching their fins. I predict tomorrow to be an excellent big fish day. Get out and get you some.

Rain helped tremendously. Aurora it rained all night; seemed maybe couple inches. Fished Willow today (caught a hawg on topwater) and will fish the Fox tomorrow

Headed out after work and was on the water by 530pm. Water level has gone up a bit but still totally wadeable. Managed half dozen smallies and one white bass. No size and considering I was out there for 3 hours it wasn't cast and catch by no means. Sounds like others faired better. Still nice to get out with out sweating bullets in my waders....

Rain seemed to get the smallies really active on the Fox the day after (yesterday). Spent too much time fishing unproductive water, but after I found them it was one right after another. Pretty sure my best numbers day this year.

I fished Chatterbaits (3 colors), top water, Plastics (2) and gold crankbait. Had one hit on the topwater but that was it. On fox went from Oswego dam to south about 2 miles and then went to DT Oswego. No catches!

Friday morning I landed around 40 smallies, three largemouth, my PB Fox Eye (at around 24"), and lost a nice cat. I tossed spinnerbaits, wide eye shad, Peanut, and spook. Almost all were caught on the peanut. The bulk of the smallies were 12-14", a few were in the 16-17" class. I couldn't bring the big girls to hand to save my life, but I had 5-6 missed oppurtunities. The fresh water brought a much needed reprieve to the heat. The renewed energy and fight was evident as all the fish - walleye aside - fought like champs. The eye was a nice surprise, a skinny but long fish.

I tossed the spook early and they were attacking it with reckless abandon. If only their aim was half as good as their agressiveness. I had several fish miss a half dozen attempts in one cast. I found smallies staging in depths from 10" to 3'. The best areas for me were riffles and a wall. Hot bite was from 5:30-7:30. I'm sure if I changed target areas I would have done better once the sun cleared the tree line.

My morning ended went I went swimming for the third time this year. Silver lining found a great hole that I know Is going to hold a good fish.

I got caught in the storm that happened today. I was fishing the fox by the Wilson street bridge in Batavia, and at approximatly 6:00a.m. the clouds blew in and the lighting started. Before I knew it I was running back to my car. rain being blown by 50mph wind gusts feels like hale. Worst part is, I only got to fish for 15 minutes and only had a couple get away.

Dude those are some sick numbers. Nicely done. I can't say I've had many days like that but what fun it is when you do. I know I get off the water with a smile that no one can remove.
