Lure

Postby JayDee » May Thu 03, 2012 3:31 pm

Hey guys

Been fishing for a long time but have used live bait exclusively. Whats a good type of lure to get started with? I'm sure it takes a lot of practice to become good, but any pointers for a beginner would be appreciated. Thanks.

I like Boo-yah spinner baits. Something with red in it seems like the general info I got once when asking. They are easy to fish with just gotta experiment with the retrieve and depth. I like how you can feel the bait moving when retrieving and if you stop feeling the vibration try to set the hook maybe you got something.

Worms... if you were bobbin in the past its similar in the patience catagory. Work it slow off the bottom. Use an EWG hook weightless and a plastic worm. Do some twitching and wait for a hit.

That will get you going. After catching a few that way you'll end up buying spinnerbaits, cranks, jigs and swimbaits in no time.

Good luck!

X2 on senko worms.

I'm an avid fan of mepps. I've been tearing it up on mepps #2's and #3's.
Toss it out and reel it in. It's about as easy as it gets.

Lures are the best. Turns its into a sport.

What type of fish are you after and where are you going to fish it? I'd throw different baits in the fox than I would in a Forest Preserve pond.

X2What Navyfisher said, but in general you can go pick up a decent selection of plastic baits and some hooks pretty cheaply. I'd buy some Senkos, Flukes, curly tails and some finesse worms. The great thing is that there are so many ways to fish them. Weedless, drop shot, nose weight, double rig etc. Where you fishing and what are you targeting?

Flick Shake or Senko for sure. You will be catching fish in a few tries. I like the zoom trick warm also

Hey guys. I went out and picked up some Senkos and I bought a couple stocked tackle boxes at a garage sale over the weekend. Plan on going out today to Twin Lakes in Palatine to try to mess around with them. Thanks for the tips and I'll keep you guys posted on the developments. Cool site!

This time of year it can't hurt to chuck around a rattle-trap either. They only cost like 4 bucks and a monkey could catch a bass on one in the spring.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!! Once you buy your first lure you will be hooked. Its like a disease you cannot control. I have tackle boxes of lures that have never seen the water, but yet, I still buy more. I'm hooked and cannot control myself. Don't start, stick with live bait.
